Vezac, Aquitaine
Painting Description
A small landholding in the wine-growing area of Aquitaine, France, appears to be just about ideal. Backed against a cliff this subject begged for a whimsical reatment.
I made little of the cliff in the background but focused instead on the house and barn in this rendering of a small holding in this wine growing region of France. Using a scratchy, almost dry brush application, my wish was to show a light hearted view of this farm. I felt this treatment would be suitable for a kid’s book. My version is not unlike the paintings of the late David Milne whose work often looked a little like a fabric design in which the light background colour showed through.
