Painting Description
I have spent much time in Bowman’s bush, a large commercial sugaring operation near Crosshill. At the start of the sugaring season much work is necessary to drill the holes for the spiles. This is a job that takes a crew of several people 3 or 4 days of wading around in snow that is sometimes quite deep. Is the Sap Running, Image #0088 and Waders, Image #1649.
Young women as well as teenaged boys are recruited for this short term job. It is a chance to put all the family to work and there is an obvious joyousness as this signals the start of spring. Hill in the Sugarbush, Image #0068 and Ivan’s Daughters, Image #0098.
