Hill in the Sugarbush
Painting Description
Since most of the good land, i.e. the flat land, was cleared for cropping, often the sugarbush contains some very hilly areas. It is thrilling to stand on a sleigh and feel the surge of power as the team attacks a hill.
The Bowman sugarbush near Crosshill has been the setting for many of my sugaring scenes. While some Mennonite families are hesitant to let me photograph, the Bowmans are welcoming. This is just another example of how people within a Mennonite group vary in their attitudes. All groups are made up of individuals.
