Outside the Store
Painting Description
To a child growing up on a Mennonite farm, a trip to the small village of Linwood represents an exciting adventure. At home, school or church, everyone knows the children by name and by family. In the village, this child becomes a minority, a foreigner. Here in Linwood, the language is English, not Pennsylvania German. The clothing and the attitudes vary greatly from the norm that this child has known, and yet for most kids a trip to town is enjoyable, educational and a chance to see, hear and do new things.
