Open Water

Painting Description

Light slashing through the trees sets up a counter pattern to the patches of unfrozen water in this stream near Bloomingdale.

As I get older, I am almost 70, I go back to my photo files and find gems that I have ignored. I took this foundation photo in the late 1970s. Recent scouting on the net for artists whose work I like, brought me back to a book on the shelves that I have owned showing the work of John Carlson. Perhaps it was the conjunction of the works of Carlson, fresh in my mind, with the photo from Bloomingdale that sparked this painting.
