Laundresses, Senegal
Painting Description
Our seats on the back of an open truck did provide us with a clear view of all the activity surrounding the Pink Lake of Retba in Senegal. The small industry of gathering salt from the bottom of the lake demands that workers live nearby in a village of circular thatched huts. In furnace-like temperatures these people struggle to make a living and raise their families. In this poor country, people are eager to work here because jobs are so scarce.
