Fixing the Bridle
Painting Description
Horse harness gets very rough treatment and demands constant attention. Sometimes a stop is necessary to make a repair.
I thought that the unusual dark green of the farmhouse and its solid shape provided a strong contrast to the activity of the man fixing the harness and to the light weight mass of the orchard. This is a good example of the way that I use a colour and scale to magnify dissimilar elements in a painting. If I do it well the viewer will have no idea that I have guided his point of view.
