Painting Description

This character study is unusual for me in that I”ve used only a soluble pastel to create this portrait of a rugged Mennonite man. Auction sales and barn raisings provide me with much close-up material for portraits. This winter figure results from a Mennonite farm auction that took place west of Hawkesville. I did get permission from the owner of the farm to take photos at this event. Only occasionally am I refused permission to photograph.
