Design in Red and Green

Painting Description

Patterns of red reeds and bushes surrounded by green create an attractive painting subject. Grey Silo Golf Course in Waterloo was the location that occasioned this piece.

This almost abstract painting is a type of image that attracts me on an aesthetic level. I guess that the patterns and juxtaposition of shades and hues are the subject. I am reminded that the painting that we know as Whistler’s Mother was called Arrangement in Grey and Black No. 1 by the artist. I think it very common for the public to assume that the artist’s interest is in the obvious subject when his motivation might have been quite different.
