Pony Cart Medley
Painting Description
In this painting, I grouped a number of kids in pony carts because I wanted to get a certain resonance, the massing of a single subject, or the varieties of a single subject. I have not done too many paintings of this type, but I would anticipate doing more where I would take a particular theme and look at it in several variations. Since the 1980’s, the number of ponies on Mennonite farms has increased dramatically. Formerly, ponies were thought to be a luxury, but now seem to be an acceptable pleasure, of which there are very few.
