Figurehead from The Empress of Japan
Painting Description
Stanley Park in Vancouver is home now to this carved head that led the Empress of Japan, a famous sailing ship. I have a strong interest in sculpture and this piece shows a highpoint in the wood-carver trade. To me the carousel horses and animals of the turn of the century fall into a similar category.
