Apple Blossoms in Alsace

Painting Description

Like all artists I have felt the influence of the French Impressionists. It seemed to me that this quiet view with apple blossoms is just the sort of thing that those painters would have tackled. I find it very easy to be overwhelmed with “important” subjects and not to be impressed by the everyday. Chris Beetles, a British art dealer, said to me, “Your paintings are contemporary genre things.” I was most flattered as I want to celebrate the ordinary which is so often beautiful and unnoticed.
