This allotment was near the Stow-on-the-Wold, but these garden plots are found across England. Usually on land owned by the town, they provide a space for people who have no garden with their cottage or flat, to enjoy the benefits of growing their own produce. I am drawn to these eccentric clusters of huts, their colours in contrast with the green of the gardens. In a strange way they put me in mind of paintings by Eugene Boudin of huts and tents along the beaches of France and also of the energetic patches of colour thrown up by Gypsy camps, now sadly disappearing.
