With Mother in the Garden
Painting Description
Mennonite family life is evident from the earliest age. Helping Mother in the garden or with any chore is the daily pattern for Mennonite kids.
The family bonds formed in childhood from the constant presence of the mother, and to a degree the father, make for a very secure emotional family connection. This feeling of security extends from the family into the brotherhood of their community. A feeling of support and belonging is the bedrock of the Mennonite society.
