Walking Home from the Duke

Painting Description

This view was inspired by the beauty of the lights on the wet street as I made my way home from the Duke of Wellington, my local pub. It is rather strange that I had not considered painting such a scene of King Street in Waterloo before. Doesn’t it remind you of the many Paris street scenes that you have seen using the shiny street to reflect the lights? In the background you can see the Bauer Lofts.

Having been reared in Waterloo, I enjoy walking in our town. Although changed in many ways, some of the same touchstones are still there. The Duke of Wellington has been my local for over 39 years. I enjoy the convivial atmosphere that is seasoned with many U.K. accents. There is a sense of community at the Duke. Regulars come from all over the region which means that they really wish to be there rather than that this is the closest spot near their work.

This original painting was part of a large group of paintings donated by the artist in 2014 to St. Mary’s Hospital.
