Virginia Afternoon

Painting Description

The warm colours of a scene of a stream in the hills of Virginia were the attraction to me in this painting.

Wandering in rural areas anywhere is a great joy for me. I find things that inspire and charm me. It is hard for me to describe the esthetic response that I have when I encounter a subject that delights. All my work flows from that emotional, not intellectual, response which puts me at odds with the art establishment of today. I don’t believe that this is something that can be taught but rather developed and nurtured.
