Track Through the Remaining Snow
Painting Description
Sad for me is the improvement of snow removal on our country roads. The ploughing crews have become so efficient that seldom are sleighs and cutters needed since the roads are clear. This early spring view shows the very end of the available snow along the fence lines as the farmer gathers sap from those windbreak maples. The water standing in the field presents a wonderful foil to the black ploughed earth. As often happens, I am drawn to a subject by design or pattern, and not really by the activity involved. For me the people and the horses simply provide animation to a quiet and serene landscape contrast.
