Sussex Cottage
Painting Description
I first noticed this yellow-doored house from the village green over the road. The village green is also the front garden of The Crown, a pretty village pub in Groombridge. Black trim on white clapboard underneath a tile roof typifies much of domestic architecture in Sussex and in the seaside sections of Kent. A friend of mine, Tony, now living in Edmonton, Alberta, mentioned that if I ever got to this part of England, I should visit this pub and extend his greetings to the publican, a former fellow student, from “Drain”. Strange people, these English school boys.
