Painting Description

Early each morning, daily except Sunday, Toronto, Hamilton and Buffalo “Doodlebug” gascar #301 made its leisurely way from Hamilton to the cities of Brantford and Waterford. For most passengers, Jerseyville was just another stop along the “To Hell & Back” line, as the TH&B was affectionately known. For local farmers and townsfolk, however, the diminutive train was a vital connection to the cities beyond. Jerseyville station was chosen as the location for this painting, as it is the meeting point for two sections of the abandoned rail corridor purchased respectively by the Hamilton Region and Grand Valley Conservation Foundations. The station has been preserved, and resides at the Westfield Heritage Centre near Rockton.
