Painting Description
One of a series of churches that I have painted, this building is the most dramatic as it presides over this small village from its plateau. Visible from every direction, this building puts me in mind of all the theatrical church settings in rural Quebec.

COMISSION TEXT | St. Boniface Church stands high above the small town of Maryhill, Ontario. After painting the exterior of the church, I had the good fortune to view the interior which is absolutely wonderful. Strangely, even though when we travel we visit many churches, at home we just don't make the same effort. For me churches often tell the intimate story of the local area. I have done many paintings of churches in England and elsewhere, but I don't think I have ever painted the interior of a local church other than a Mennonite meetinghouse. This piece was commissioned by a local funeral home many years ago. |
