Squinting

Painting Description

Soluble pastes as well as acrylics were used to make this character study. The heavy winter coat, as well as the traditional German style hat, tells us how cold the weather was that day. It seems no matter how cold the weather, the Mennonite farmers seldom lower the ear flaps on their hats. Is this a macho thing? I don’t know. The Mennonite women are warmly wrapped during cold weather with giant scarves encircling their bonnets.
