Spring Lambs

Painting Description

It would be impossible to spend any time in rural England without some notice of sheep. These new lambs are a true sign that spring has arrived. I was so taken by these tiny creatures that resemble stuffed toys. When I look at this painting now, I am surprised at how pastel and soft my approach was to the early spring in Kent. My handling of a sketch subject is instinctive, not considered, so that the results when viewed later, sometimes surprise even me. After so many years of painting, I am becoming more comfortable with the idea of letting my intuition run loose.
