Saturday Shopping, Chinatown

Painting Description

Because my sister-in law lives in Vancouver we have, over the past years, made many visits to this attractive city. In addition to the obviously beautiful setting of Vancouver the vitality of Chinatown adds an extra appeal for me. This watercolour shows the brightly coloured bits that form the background for the hustle of its inhabitants. This Chinatown also reminds me of my student days in Toronto when the Oriental influence was moving into the area of the Ontario College of Art. I still occasionally use a Chinese mop, which is a floppy type of brush developed for Chinese writing.
