Here are the artist notes on the piece:

I finally got around to painting this piece in 1996 from photos that I took in the late 1970’s. I am so pleased that I realized early on the good sense of identifying and ordering my photos in a systematic way. I now have over 70,000 photographs, in addition to sketches and bits of writing, that are filed for subject, season, location and activity. Had I not brought that order to my “stuff”, I would not have been able to produce a piece like this, twenty years after the fact.
