Restoration at the Church of the Spilt Blood, St. Petersburg
Painting Description
Just swarming with tourists, many of them Russian, this Byzantine-looking church in St. Petersburg crowds up against the river. Because of its obvious garish appeal, the government has decided to spend major money to restore it. Local people use this church as a photo opportunity for wedding shots. The day we visited, there were over a dozen newlyweds in their finery posing with this building as their backdrop. It is too bad that there is not enough money to restore more of this once magnificent city.
