Painting Description

The structure of this softly hued painting of a Mennonite farm was drawn with a wax pencil (china marker). Although a pencil of that type will not hold a point, the feel of the instrument on the paper is pleasing to me. Although the wax is not applied heavily enough to act in a cloisonné way, the line does slightly inhibit the flow of the wash applied later. Note: cloisonné is a technique mainly in metal that forms a dam that contains liquid colour, often molten glass.
