Painting Description

The colourful quilts beating a rhythm on the line of this Mennonite farm home add a counterpoint to the laughter of Mother and Children in the yard. Flowerbeds spill their contents onto the lawn of this private paradise. I would like to do more paintings that deal with Mennonite women, but most of their time is spent inside the house which is off limits to me, a man. Over the years I have built a fairly good relationship with many of the Mennonite men, but Mennonite women still live in a somewhat sheltered way. I felt that the inclusion of the quilts on the line added to the domestic idea. This picture has been popular with quilters.
