Prized Neighbourhood
Painting Description
This section of London called, for obvious reasons, Little Venice is a much desirable section of London just north of the London Zoo. Because the area is pretty and close to central London, the prices for flats now closely resemble the national debt. A friend of ours, who now lives near Cambridge (England), was able to purchase a newly renovated detached two-bedroom stone house from the sale of her fourth floor walk-up flat in this area. Even the opportunity to tie-up a barge on a permanent basis in this area has become ruinous. Once the home to artsy types, these floating homes are now occupied by many media and other up-market types. Although traffic whizzes by on both sides of the canal, I find the set-down area with its leafy borders quite calm and infinitely interesting. Need proof of the exclusivity of this neighbourhood? Lord Archer lives in this area. Well, his wife does. He, unfortunately, is doing three to five years at Her Majesty’s convenience for fibbing on the witness stand.
