Painting Description

The cold frame at left, as well as the old pump, tells much about the conservative life into which these children have been born. The girls, with their hair tightly braided and pinned to their heads, show them to be from a strict Mennonite group. The little boy, with a cap under his straw hat, has that raga muffin look so common among these country children.
