Place of Business, Portuguese Cove, Nova Scotia
Painting Description
I was attracted by this colourful building for receiving fish, one of many along Portuguese Cove. Low tide reveals much of the structure beneath the dock or stage.
Colourful buildings like this are so Disneyesque that it is very easy to forget that this is a place of serious and dangerous business. Portuguese fishermen first started fishing here, in this small place very near Halifax, in the 17th century.
