Painting Description

The entire audience for this evening’s entertainment was bused from several ships in the St. Petersburg harbour to an elegant townhouse in the city centre. We were escorted to a small theatre accommodating two hundred people. In this red velvet upholstered room, we were treated to various arias from famous operas, and this painting shows the finale where the soloists return to the stage for a voluble close.
