Painting Description

At rest in the off season, this Crosshill area sugar shanty almost resembles a building from a fairy tale. The dramatic lighting greatly enhances its appeal for me.

Working from a photo of the group of buildings that comprise Bowman’s sugaring camp, I decided to make the building in the shadows to be the star of this piece. Normally I use strong light to highlight the feature.
