Painting Description

Osiah Bauman, whose name is carved on a tree in a sugarbush near St. Clements, is now recorded in this painting. I prowl Mennonite country always looking for some colour, some light effect, and some piece of human nature. I find it charming that some years ago a young man waiting for the next load of sap to come to the sugarhouse carved his name in a tree.
