Moving to the Next Farm

Painting Description

Since the tractor has come to agriculture it is possible for a farmer to work by himself without the help of his friends. The Mennonite farmer who still relies on horses needs the co-operation of his neighbour to plant and harvest the crops. I was fortunate to stumble on this scene of working together as the crew moved from one farm to another along the gravel road. It might surprise you to hear the din that a horse drawn disc makes on a gravel road. Every disc becomes a cymbal as the stones ricochet.
