Lunch Break

Painting Description

For several years I kept, in my file, some photos of workmen eating lunch outside. From time to time I was tempted to use this motif with a different setting but held back, waiting for the right time. I’m glad that I waited to use this scene outside the Seagram Distillery (circa 1881). It was past this very spot that my brothers and I walked on our way to church or to my grandmother’s house after she moved to town from the farm.
