Painting Description

The picture of young women enjoying the necessary task is very typical of the old time rural philosophy. For this painting I removed the background farm equipment from the actual situation and played up the colour. I even added our little cat lying on the seat asleep. My desire in all my work is to intensify the impact of the main theme while still staying true to the feeling of the situation. This kind of composing of pieces is an approach that has gradually developed in my work over the years. In my earlier years I would have felt that I must be more literal in all aspects.
