Lake District Farmhouse

Painting Description

This gravely serious farmhouse, set with its back to the steep hills, is just down the road from the Sharrow Bay Hotel, a well-known spot in the Lake District in England. Although the culture is different here, I am reminded of the much-amended Mennonite farmhouses. In this area due to the high hills and poor soil, sheep are the major animal population. This is not far from where the poet, Longfellow, wrote “A Host of Golden Daffodils.” This small painting resulted from a weeklong stay in “Wordsworth Country” in 1983. Strange that although we have no family connections to England, we feel a connection in spirit.
