Irises from Our Garden

Painting Description

These flowers, whose bulbs we got from my mother’s garden, are so showy in colour and eccentric in shape and yet possess a certain velvety prim Victorian quality as well. I’ve added passages of pastels to the quickly executed watercolour which was painted right in the garden as the mosquitoes fed on me, so no wonder that I got right to the point.
