Inside the Castle Walls, Bodiam Castle
Painting Description
Although most tourist views of castles are exteriors, I find the inner views very interesting as well. Since castles are long-term construction projects stretching over hundreds of years, the building techniques are evident. At Bodiam which was almost in our Kentish neighbourhood, in 1998, we had the chance to see first hand the still on-going reconstruction after years of neglect. The school children however did not mind the uncompleted state of the castle. They ran as if in a giant playground, perhaps with less appreciation of the historic context than the athletic one.
