In the Mennonite Tradition

Painting Description

Over the years I have painted many pictures of traditional farmhouses. These houses have grown and expanded as each generation adds its own personal attachment. In true Mennonite fashion there is little concern for a matching material for each new piece. The concern is practical. How much will the siding or brick or cladding cost and will it fulfill its function. I used to be bothered by the apparent lack of concern for the appearance of these appendages, but I have come to appreciate the idea of this Mennonite vernacular style.
