Painting Description

A young Amish couple head into their lane. Their tiny farmhouse can be seen to the left.

I was initially attracted to this couple by their homemade chariot. Although the Amish are very frugal, the making of one’s own cart is very rare. Things like the shafts on the cart that do not taper suggest a very crude workshop. My conclusion is that this is a young, probably teenaged, married couple just starting off in life. The size and condition of the farmhouse suggests kids just beginning.
