Painting Description
Long-time residents from Waterloo, Cambridge and Brantford areas fondly remember family weekend excursions to Port Dover, aboard the electric “interurban” cars of the Lake Erie & Northern Railway. The most scenic portion of this route was the stretch between Galt and Paris, which closely parallelled the Grand River. “Heading for Galt” depicts a once common scene at the famous freshwater spring along Hwy. 24 just south of Cambridge. The spring remains a refreshing stop for trail users along the abandoned rail line, even though the trains are now long gone.
