Hawkesville General Store
Painting Description
Martin’s General Store in Hawkesville has been converted a dining hall since the death of the store’s proprietor, Angela Martin. I was amused by Angela’s concern for the cost of electricity in her establishment. As I moved through her small store, she would turn off the ceiling-hung, naked light bulb over the section of merchandise that I had just passed. More than one light bulb on at one time seemed excessive to this tiny, old lady.
