Painting Description

I was so taken by these young Amish girls as they skated on the river at Millbank. Although formal competition is discouraged in traditional Mennonite families, the spontaneous challenge of making graceful swoops on the ice kept these girls occupied. The girls in their colourful clothes are from quite a conservative Amish group, but their new figure skates would indicate that certain allowances are now made in this brotherhood.
