Painting Description

This is an Old Order Amish scene near Milverton. I was attracted by the girl wearing a jacket while her Dad, who was obviously working hard, had his sleeves rolled up. I am often surprised by how lightly Amish/Mennonite men are dressed as they do heavy labour, but their shirts never come off. That would be unseemly. This small girl in her plain clothes reminds me a little of archival photos that I”ve seen of kids in the depression. Amish/Mennonite kids learn from an early age that clothes are not important items.
