Our complicated and sophisticated appliances mean most of us are unable to repair any of the machines that we use daily. The Mennonites with their basic approach to equipment have a much greater chance to repair a problem. It is true that the traditional farmer is skilled to a degree in many things from carpentry to animal husbandry. His skills allow him to cope well with the work world around him and thus have a great deal of control over his life.
