Father Brings the Carriage

Painting Description

Most customs are rooted in practicality. In this painting, father drives the buggy from the crowded parking area to pick up his wife and children from the church dock. This system helps to reduce the number of people in the congested tie-up area where accidents can so easily happen when this number of excitable horses is packed together. If a buggy is parked in an easily accessible spot, families may sometimes mount the carriage at the hitching post, but much care must be taken as the horse and buggy must back up, and with a full load that can be a tricky maneuver.
