Dressed for Sunday
Painting Description
At no time would people from the more conservative Mennonite groups ever attend church wearing other than their very best clothes. Sunday, “Meetinghouse Day”, demands black or navy clothing, shiny shoes and a shiny buggy, horse and harness. During the work week colour plays a greater role in their dress, but even then does not soar beyond cobalt blue, violet or walnut brown.
