Door in a Churchyard Wall

Painting Description

It was common years ago in England for the village church to be contiguous to the manor house. The great house shown here in the background is Buckland Manor, now a fashionable country house hotel. We have stayed there several times and have had celebratory dinners there as well with my family. In years past this door between the manor and the church would have been well used. Now the ancient door no longer even swings on its hinges, but the church and the manor still stand on either side.
