Country Stream Design
Painting Description
Using a small stream in the St. Jacobs area as my subject, this piece is really an experiment in a stylized landscape. I had seen the work of an artist in Cornwall, England, that started me thinking about a more designed approach to Mennonite country. I was familiar with the use of the painting knife as I had learned through lessons with M.F. Kousal as a teenager. His technique was, however, a naturalistic treatment. As a young painter I was eager to develop a signature painting style to express my chosen subject, Mennonite Country.
